You really cannot slice the cake both ways, Mr. President! You cannot claim that the Democrats are to blame for the shutdown of the government because they refuse to negotiate while you are making it impossible for them to negotiate with you. You cannot tell the voters (while on camera) that you’ll sign whatever they send you – and then tell the legislators that you will only sign something that satisfies the most rabid right-wing portions of your base.
You promised that you would sign any deal that the legislators sent to you – and that you would take the heat for it. “If they come to me with things that I’m not in love with, I’m going to do it, because I respect them.” He said, adding “I’ll take the heat off both the Democrats and the Republicans,”
But Oh! How quickly that tune changed. Practically as soon as he had said it, he started adding caveats and conditions. He also started limiting what it was that he was actually interested in approving.
Now we’re in a government shutdown largely caused by the President’s unwillingness to negotiate in good faith. He is insisting now that unless he gets his way he will not sign anything and the government must be open BEFORE he even considers any offers.
“I never get too attached to one deal or one approach…I keep a lot of balls in the air, because most deals fall out, no matter how promising they seem at first.”
The Art of the Deal
Tony Schwartz (writing as “Donald Trump”)
If POTUS actual wants to be seen as “the Deal-Maker President” he needs to live by the ideals he has in the book he claims to have written. Demanding one set of prerequisites before he will even consider negotiation does not appear to be in compliance with the principles in “The Art of the Deal.”
So, again – the party most responsible for the government shutdown is The Trump Voter – you elected this incompetent buffoon. He is in over his head, and incapable of understanding what his job is. You put him there – you deserve to share the blame with him. Congratulations, Trump Voters! You shut-down the government!
When you start missing your government benefits, when you start being inconvenienced for this, I hope that you will remember that this is your fault!
